Education

Educational Events
Part of our motto is Education. We strive to provide interesting and relevant programs and events for our members.
We organize popular annual events including our Preschool Information Fair. We have also offered workshops on Positive Parenting, babywearing, first aid, and sign language among other topics.
Preschool Fair and Directory
We know that looking for childcare for your children can be a difficult and overwhelming process! In order to help you, the DMC has put together some resources.
Preschool/Parents Morning Out Directory
The DMC has created a directory of local preschools and Parents Morning Out programs. We ask local schools and PMOs to fill out questionnaires that contain everything you might want to know, including hours, cut-off dates, costs, teaching philosophy, etc. We put all of this information together and provide it exclusively to our members.
We are currently in the process of updating the Directory and putting it online so it is easier for our members to access. Check back soon!
You can also check out the Durham and Orange County Preschool Association for information about 25+ half-day preschools in the area: https://durhamorangepa.wixsite.com/dopa
If you run a preschool/program or your child attends a great one that should be included in the directory, write to dmcpreschooldirectory@gmail.com. We'd love to hear from you!
Preschool Information Fair
We hold an annual Preschool Information Fair each year in the late fall where you can come and talk to representatives of 20+ Preschools/PMO programs to see what your options are for the upcoming school year. Applications can be due as early as January(!). It is free and open to the public.
Kindergarten Forum
Kindergarten Information Package
The DMC has created a comprehensive information package that details the numerous options for kindergarten in Durham and their application processes, in addition to considerations for choosing the best fit and school for your children. This is an incredible resource for parents with rising kindergartners and is updated annually.
We are currently updating this package and will make it available to members soon.
Kindergarten Forum
We host an annual Kindergarten Forum where members can come to get information from educators, administrators, and parents who have recently gone through the kindergarten process. It is an event consisting of thoughtful discussions between panelists and members about various types of schools and their advantages and disadvantages to help parents determine the best kindergarten fit for their children. It is usually held in the late fall.
